About PermitIndex

PermitIndex is a self-serve construction-activity intelligence feed for Toronto, built entirely on the City of Toronto's free Open Data (Building Permits).

What we sell

We sell where + what + how much + how fresh — geocoded and alerting. Not leads. Not contacts. Not a CRM. A permit in our feed tells you that work of a specific type and estimated value has been filed in a specific place. It does not tell you who is doing the work or who owns the property.

That is a feature, not a bug. Toronto's permit data rarely includes contractor or owner names anyway. The value is territorial and market intelligence: which neighbourhoods are heating up, which trades are surging, where projects big enough to matter are being filed.

How it works

Every day we pull the latest Toronto Building Permit records from the City Open Data portal, clean them (stripping blank or sentinel cost values, geocoding addresses to lat/long, classifying permits by trade), and store the result in a searchable database. You save a trade × area × value filter, and our alert engine emails you every new matching permit each morning. No manual checking required.

v1 scope — Toronto only

v1 is deliberately focused on Toronto. One city done well beats five cities half-built. Multi-city expansion (Mississauga, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver) is on the roadmap after the first ten paying accounts validate the model.

The data

All permit data comes from the City of Toronto Open Data portal under the Open Government Licence – Toronto. See our data sources page for full details on the dataset, refresh cadence, and what we do and do not include.
